J0284916Physical and sexual abuse of children   is a type of maltreatment widespread in our society today. Despite this fact, however, many people still have a distorted view of abuse. Many times, the child is made to feel guilty or that they were in some way responsible for the abuse.   This can cause persistent   psychological problems that reach into adulthood.   As adults, victims of childhood sexual or physical abuse may be reluctant or afraid to seek help.   They may not even realize how the abuse has affected their lives.   Psychological intervention can help uncover the hidden harms of abuse.
SunsetAddiction can affect our lives in many ways.   There are many types of addictions common in todays society.   Addictions affect adults, adolescents, and children   alike.   It can cause a life to fall apart and affect not only the person addicted, but their family and friends as well.   At Bear Creek Counseling Center, we are invested in helping people who want to overcome addictions.

PH03205I   Depression may afflict rich or poor, successful or unsuccessful, highly educated or uneducated.   We have all felt depressed at some time during   our   lives.   The loss of a job or the death of a loved one may result in depression.   Symptoms for adults may include a disruption or change in sleep patterns, physical complaints without a biological reason, irritability, social withdrawal and a loss of interest or enjoyment in things that were previously considered   fun.   These symptoms exist for adults and children and   can manifest in many different ways.   While   medication   can help and may be necessary, research has shown that medication in conjunction with psychotherapy   can shorten the duration of the depression and improve the prognosis for recovery.

WaterAttention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder has become more prevalent and recognized in our schools today.   Teachers, counselors, administrators and parents are working together more and more to assist students that have difficulty maintaining focus and attention.   AD/HD can take different forms such as Inattentive Type, Hyperactive Type, and Combined Type.   Children who are primarily inattentive may seem fine on the outside.   They do not tend to disrupt classes or call a lot of attention to themselves, but never seem to accomplish much in school.   They may appear to be day dreamers or to not care about their academics.   Hyperactive children will always get your attention!   They seem to have an internal motor that never stops. They will interrupt others or answer questions out of turn and will engage in very impulsive actions without knowing why.   There are many types of behavior medications that can be put in place at home and at school to support children with AD/HD.

PH01221KSchool related concerns   can refer to many different problems.   Issues such as bullying, peer relationships, gender interactions, grades, social skills and many others affect kids in school everyday.   Childhood and adolescence can be confusing for kids and parents alike.   We can help facilitate problem solving interactions between parents and children, address behavioral concerns, and develop plans to help achieve better academic standards.   Anger & Anxiety is not just for adults.   Children sometimes react in unusual ways to problems because they are emotionally not prepared to deal with them.   As parents, we can sometimes be too close to the problem behavior to see the underlying issue.   At Bear Creek Counseling Center, we can help children understand the ins and outs of growing up as well as provide tools that they can use everyday to deal with new and stressful situations.
